McPherson Historic Resources Survey

SCOPE OF WORK: Survey & Determination
of National Register Eligibility
CLIENT: The City of McPherson
COMPLETED: January 2006

As in all communities, the buildings in the central Kansas city of McPherson tell a unique and important story. They define the culture of the community and represent tangible reminders of its past that create a unique “sense of place.” As McPherson continues to evolve, change provides the opportunity to strengthen and enrich the City’s visual character and to enhance the quality of life already appreciated by residents and visitors.

Using a grant from the Kansas State Historical Society, the City of McPherson hired Elizabeth Rosin to survey 337 residential, commercial, and religious properties located in four distinct areas in the heart of the city. From the surveyed properties, Rosin identified 16 buildings and four districts that appear eligible for listing in the National Register or in the Register of Historic Kansas Places. This information will assist the City with future planning activities and provides another tool to help preserve McPherson’s unique history.
