5 Lessons from 10 Years
#4 Windows, Windows, Windows

As we look back over the past decade, we have learned many lessons, although several come up with enough regularity that they seem worth sharing ER

There is a reason why windows are the crux of a rehab. If eyes are the windows to a person’s soul, windows are a building’s eyes. Get them right and the transformation is spectacular. Get them wrong and it can be, well, a black eye. Never underestimate the challenge of a window. Whether you choose to repair or replace, it will be complicated and expensive. Configuration, dimensions, profiles and materials are all part of this discussion. There is always, always, a long lead time. Plan accordingly. The project will run smoother and everyone will be happier.

The new windows at the Bancroft School Apartments did an exemplary job of replicating the details of the building’s original windows.
